There comes a point in every single woman’s life when she contemplates online dating. That point came for me a few weeks ago when I was approached with an opportunity to try out a fairly new dating site called HowAboutWe. I’d like to think the humor filled stars aligned in my Gmail that day, since the pitch came at a time when I’d just decided to start dating again.
I’m a big believer in the whole idea that “everything happens for a reason” figuring at the very least I would get some decent blog fodder out of joining. That being said, I agreed to sign up for my free trial on the How About We dating site and so began my adventures in online dating.
Having never filled out an online dating profile before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Lucky for me, HowAboutWe was super simple. After answering a few questions and uploading some pictures, my entire profile was complete and ready for prospective suitors in less than 15 minutes.
The premise of HowAboutWe is to put the date back in dating. How do they do that? By having members invent dates on their profile pages so that finding a potential mate with similar interests is easier than ever. Unlike some other dating sites, this creative approach skips the 101 questions (instead they give you twenty-six) and gets right to the fun part: Asking someone out and sucking face after a few shots of tequila!
I’m sorry that’s my perfect date, perhaps yours would be something less raunchy.
Interested in someone’s profile and their date idea on HowAboutWe? Show the size of your balls by either sending them a message or letting them know you’re intrigued.
Don’t literally show them your balls, though. Take it from a woman who’s seen a lot of balls, that’s no way to get a response.
While the limited Q & A on the How About We dating site doesn’t give you much insight into who a person is on their profile page, that’s where the private messaging feature comes in.
Plus, I feel like you can tell a lot about a person by their dating profile.
Like these gems:
What else makes HowAboutWe unique. Under their “Play” tab they also have an interesting “Speed Dating” feature which allows you to shuffle through brief introductions of members in your area (according to the preferences you choose at set up, such as age range and distance) while quickly pressing a “Yes” or “No” button to determine your interest.
There’s also a “Date Ideas” tab where you can view some of the most popular dates and the members who came up with them, made especially for you thievy and less-creative types, and stalkers.
Last night I was lucky enough to experience the awesome that is the HowAboutWe “Date Cam” where they broadcast a blind date between two of their members, LIVE for all to see. It was nothing short of cringe worthy and I loved every god damn minute of it. In fact, the awkwardness that was the first ten minutes of their date left me longing for a first date of my own.
It’s been too long.
Because I’m so obviously awesome showed cleavage in my profile pic, I’ve been lucky enough to receive a plethora of messages from eligible bachelors in my area. Some of them have been interesting, some of them have been not so interesting, some of them have made me shake my head, some of them have made me lock my doors, and some of them have made me laugh my ass off.
In an effort to provide some comedic relief and aid my indecision, I’ve enlisted you all to choose my very first date from the How About We dating site in what I like to call “The Dating Mely Game.”
If you haven’t watched the video and cast a vote for your favorite bachelor in my previous post, hurry and do it now below! The poll closes on Wednesday 9/21 at 12pm EST. Winner takes Mely(on a fun filled date) next week!
Hopefully I live to blog about it.
Voting is now closed.
