Singles In America. Or Why It’s Okay To Be Single This Valentine’s Day

Last Saturday, Match.com, the world’s largest online dating site, hosted an offline-meets-online event to announce news from their third annual Singles in America study.

This years study took an in-depth look at the sex lives of singles, the impact of technology on dating and the behavioral differences between married vs. single adults.

Some of the results were SHOCKING – but not in the way you’d think.. you dirty birdy.

Shocking to me, because apparently love is not dead and more singles still believe in it than you’d think.

A whopping 90% of singles who are looking to get married believe they can STAY MARRIED to the same person forever.

I like those odds!

So what do those single men that are looking for forever want?

But 48% of them won’t give it to you unless they meet your parents first.

How do ya like them old school apples, ladies?

But here comes the irony, fellas…

While you want commitment, women want independence.

Which would explain why I feel like almost every guy I’ve attempted to date in the last year feels like a Stage Five Clinger.

As part of Saturday’s experience, Dr. Helen Fisher, Chief Scientific Advisor for Match.com, presented even more findings from the study during a livestream from Prohibition in NYC – the perfect place for a first date if you’re in the Big Apple.

I was lucky enough to be in attendance to catch it all live, but for those who weren’t, you can watch the entire presentation to hear more of the results about Singles in America at the following link: Match.com Presents Singles In America

We all know SinglesInUsa do some crazy things. Like sexting for instance…

My phone is certainly no virgin.

Part of regaining my confidence as a single woman and a single mom involved exploring my sexuality. During that exploring I entered into a not-so-brief relationship with a man online that consisted of us talking dirty to each other and me sending him sexy pictures.

I’ll be the first to admit that it may not have been the smartest thing to do, but at the time it was exactly what I needed to get my mojo back- and he and that relationship is a large part of the story of how I became the woman I am today.

Would I send those types of pictures to a man I’m dating these days? Probably not unless we’re in a committed relationship. Especially since Match.com discovered 42% of men who’ve received a sext, have shared it with a friend…

When married people hear the word “single” they probably think of wild parties, drinking and especially lots of sex! Vice versa, when singles hear the word “married” they probably think of more spooning and less action.

Based on these stereotypes, who do you think thinks about sex more: Married people or singles?

This may shock you, but married people think about sex more frequently than singles (76% think about sex at least once a week vs. 72% of singles)

Now who do you think achieves more orgasms: Married people or singles? The answer might surprise you…

47% of married people achieve orgasms 91-100% of the time vs. 38% of singles! Maybe it’s because  Match also found out that 73% of married people are still head-over-heels in love with their partner.
